Spider Crane Product Introduction & Selection Guide

Spider crane, also known as mini crawler crane, gets its name from multi‑group extendable spider‑style outriggers. Its configuration can be switched flexibly. For transportation, outriggers are fully retracted for compact dimension and excellent site accessibility. During lifting work, outriggers are fully opened to offer wide support span and even force distribution for high working stability.
Featuring light weight and compact size, mainstream models reach 0.8‑2 m retracted width and under 2.5 m height. They travel easily through narrow urban alleys, courtyards and small gateways. Apart from equipment installation & glass curtain wall lifting in tight sites, they can be transported via freight elevators for indoor and rooftop tasks, and deployed in mountainous complex job‑sites for highly flexible applications.

1. Core Structure & Working Principle

Rubber Track ChassisLow ground‑bearing pressure minimizes damage to paved floors. Smooth travel enables passage over stairs, slopes up to 25° and various indoor ground surfaces.

Four Independent Outriggers360‑degree full‑range spreading. Each outrigger can be levelled separately. Stable support is achieved even on soft ground or rooftops to guarantee lifting safety.

Telescopic Knuckle BoomMulti‑section hydraulic telescopic boom with 360‑degree slewing function. Most standard units are equipped with wireless remote control for convenient and precise operation.

Counterweight‑free Light‑weight DesignTraditional heavy counterweights are removed. Stability is realised by wide‑span outriggers, which greatly cuts self‑weight and shrinks overall dimension while keeping reliable performance.

2. Main Technical Specifications

‑ 2‑ton model (mini compact unit): Retracted width 0.78 m, height 1.9 m. Fits standard doorways and freight elevators. Self‑weight ≤1 ton, ideal for confined‑space lifting.‑ 3‑5 ton (mainstream models): Max working height 12‑18 m, working radius 8‑14 m. Widely used for indoor curtain‑wall installation, small‑component hoisting and workshop construction.

‑ 16‑ton heavy‑duty model: Max working height 25 m, working radius 23 m. Higher lifting capacity and larger coverage for heavy‑load rooftop and factory‑site hoisting.

3. Key Advantages

  1. Excellent performance in tight spacesAccess indoor areas, basements, rooftops, elevator shafts and narrow lanes where truck cranes and large crawler cranes cannot enter. Fills the gap for limited‑site lifting assignments.

  2. Wide terrain adaptabilityIndependent single‑leg levelling allows stable operation on slopes, steps, soft soil and finished floors, outperforming conventional lifting machinery.

  3. Electric versions for indoor jobsLithium‑powered units deliver zero emission and low noise, well‑suited for enclosed rooms and environmentally‑controlled construction zones.

  4. Lower overall construction costWorking‑shift cost reaches only 1/3‑1/2 of truck cranes. No structural demolition or road closure required. Less pre‑site preparation brings higher working efficiency.

4. Main Application Fields

‑ Lifting in constrained sites: steel‑structure erection, glass curtain wall installation, sub‑station maintenance, rooftop equipment hoisting and workshop machine relocation.‑ Multi‑function aerial work: fitted with work basket to act as compact aerial work platform for installation, maintenance and site inspection.

‑ Complex outdoor projects: road repair, bridge maintenance and quarry operations on rough ground.

‑ Cross‑industry usage: power‑cable erection, wind‑turbine service, oil‑gas‑field maintenance, pipeline laying, interior fit‑out for commercial buildings, metro and airport projects.

5. Selection Tips

  1. Choose by rated lifting capacityPick 2‑5 ton units for regular indoor light‑duty hoisting. Select 8‑16 ton heavy‑duty models for rooftop heavy‑load lifting and factory large‑equipment relocation.

  2. Choose by power sourceDiesel‑powered units for outdoor long‑time operation without strict environmental requirements, offering strong power and long runtime. Battery‑electric models for indoor enclosed areas with emission‑noise restrictions.

  3. Check retracted dimensions for site accessIf the machine needs to pass elevators, narrow doorways or narrow aisles, measure site dimensions in advance and match retracted machine size for smooth entry & exit.
